L’Ecluse is a large house situated in the picturesque village of St Géry just 20 minutes to the east of Cahors and just 20 kilometres from the beautiful medieval Cliffside village of St Cirq Lapopie, and an excellent base from which to discover the Lot Valley.
Cahors is the main town of the Lot département. It has a fascinating medieval history with many still existing landmarks, including Valentré bridge and the Cathedrale St Etienne both dating from the 14th century. It also has a huge selection of famous local red wines and delicious food, and there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars to cater for every taste.
To the east of Cahors the road follows the Lot river towards St Géry and further on to St Cirq Lapopie, a medieval village built into the side of the cliffs with spectacular views. St Cirq Lapopie is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in the Lot Valley.
The Lot Valley is 100 years war country so there are many interesting forts and ruins to visit. Although Cahors was only briefly owned by the English, many villages along the Lot were scenes of fierce battles. There is also a stage of the “Santiago de Compostela” pilgrim trail which runs through Cahors.
